Stan Hartling The Shore Club Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands Originally from Canada, I became a partner in The Barrian Group, a Nova Scotian
property development company, in 1989. By 1995, The Barrian Group had liquidated most of its completed projects, which led me to explore development opportunities in international markets. The lure of tax-free living and the quality of life in the Turks and Caicos Islands led me to relocate to Providenciales.
In 1996 I purchased an initial beachfront parcel of land on Grace Bay Beach, on which I developed a 90-unit condominium resort, The Sands at Grace Bay. The Sands opened in December 1998 and today it is one of the most successful resorts in the region with solid year-over-year revenue growth.
In partnership with Coxco Construction, I began development on The Palms Resort on Grace Bay, Providenciales in 2002. The project, situated on a prime 12-acre site, exceeds $100,000,000 in today’s dollars. The Shore Club, our latest development, is a breathtaking new Caribbean condominium development by The Hartling Group, nestled in a private setting along 820 feet of prime oceanfront on the picturesque Long Bay Beach of Providenciales. Architecturally designed in the traditional Barbadianstyle, this project features 85 units within a village-like cluster of lowdensity buildings, all perfectly designed to offer unsurpassed views, tranquility, and the ultimate in privacy. The amenities include a guest reception, spa, retail boutique, ballroom, main restaurant, interior and oceanfront pools and bar areas. With only a handful of access points, and set back from the arched shoreline of Long Bay Beach, The Shore Club ensures a quiet and private environment. The Shore Club is just two miles from everything Provo has to offer, including fi ne dining and shopping establishments, a premier golf course and two marinas. Our goal is to offer one of Provo’s most exciting preconstruction opportunities while protecting the property’s pristine beach and dune area. Efforts are being made to save as many indigenous plants as possible throughout the site and appropriate dune grasses are being transplanted to preserve an important buffer zone. In fact, we are proud to say that The Shore Club will be the fi rst TCI resort to maintain its beach under “Blue Flag” status.
From an investment perspective, we expect smaller micro markets like The Turks and Caicos to offer great opportunity for growth values over the coming years, when many of the capital structures that previously created a large amount of marketplace will retract and so affect supply. The beautiful thing about the Turks and Caicos is its intimate size which not only makes it a true second home to the fortunate few, but also means that even small increases in demand over the upcoming years can mean a quick upward change in the market curve.
